Fr. Laurence’s Lenten Reflections – Easter Sunday
We do not know if we will see the sun
Rise in its slow and heavy, fast and airy globeness
Over the horizon of the Beara peninsular this year,
If the fingers of earth stretching into the sea
Will be irradiated with the light of the original gold.
I can only tell you that after the event.
But that the sun will rise is as certain as that it set
Because there is another cycle of expiring and inspiration
As long as the body of the cosmos
On which he who has risen rides.
His joy ripples like the waves of the sea at sea
His peace touches us on land like waves the shore
Sometimes with disarming gentleness
Sometimes with the terror of his beauty.
